Carol Shea-Porter stopped in the city last week in the course of touring the 1st Congressional District to gauge the reaction of social service agencies to the prospect of further reductions in public assistance programs, particularly the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program known as LIHEAP.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today hosted a roundtable discussion with Meals on Wheels volunteers, staff, and clients at the Strafford Nutrition Program’s Somersworth headquarters. The discussion highlighted how deep cuts in President Trump’s budget proposal would hurt New Hampshire communities. During the roundtable, Strafford Nutrition Program Director Jaymie Chagnon said that just a 3% cut in federal funding could lead to 2,500 fewer meal deliveries in Strafford County per year.
