Today Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced their support for the Strengthening Protections for Social Security Beneficiaries Act of 2017. This bipartisan legislation will strengthen and improve Social Security’s representative payee program, which helps nearly 8 million Social Security recipients manage their benefits. The representative payee program supports Social Security beneficiaries who need assistance, including children and people with conditions that impact their ability to manage their benefits.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today hosted a roundtable discussion with Meals on Wheels volunteers, staff, and clients at the Strafford Nutrition Program’s Somersworth headquarters. The discussion highlighted how deep cuts in President Trump’s budget proposal would hurt New Hampshire communities. During the roundtable, Strafford Nutrition Program Director Jaymie Chagnon said that just a 3% cut in federal funding could lead to 2,500 fewer meal deliveries in Strafford County per year.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today co-introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to expand veteran caregiver support services. The Military and Veteran Caregiver Services Improvement Act would extend critical support services, such as monthly stipends and travel expense reimbursement to caregivers of all veterans. Currently, these benefits are only available to caregivers of post-9/11 veterans.
