Shea-Porter Announces Armed Services Subcommittee Assignments

Congresswoman Will Serve on Military Personnel & Readiness Subcommittees

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today announced her appointment to the Military Personnel and Readiness subcommittees of the House Armed Services Committee. This is Shea-Porter’s fourth term on both subcommittees.

“I was a military spouse, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for our troops, veterans and their families as a member of the Military Personnel and Readiness subcommittees,” said Shea-Porter. “I will work to keep Pease Air National Guard Base strong and keep the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard the best shipyard in the nation.  They are critical to our nation’s defense.”

 

Readiness

The Readiness Subcommittee makes sure that our troops are properly trained and their equipment is properly maintained so they can succeed in their missions, and that they have the facilities and services they deserve when they return home. It is responsible for:

  • Military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance issues and programs;

  • Military construction, installations and family housing issues, and the base realignment and closure (BRAC) process;

  • Civilian personnel;

  • Energy security;

  • and environmental issues that affect DOD.

 

Military Personnel 

The Military Personnel Subcommittee makes sure that our troops and their families are receiving the benefits that they deserve. It is responsible for:

  • Military personnel policy;

  • Reserve component integration and employment issues;

  • Military health care;

  • Military education;

  • and POW/MIA issues.

Protecting troops and supporting military families

  • Protecting troops from toxic burn pits and airborne hazards

  • Addressing post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury

  • Providing female troops with appropriate equipment

  • Expanding military families' access to rehabilitative therapies
