Shea-Porter Hosts Reception for Veterans who Submitted Stories to the Veterans History Project
DOVER, NH— Earlier today at the Dover Public Library, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter hosted a reception for veterans who have submitted their stories to the Library of Congress (LOC) and the American Folklife Center’s Veterans History Project. The collection can be searched here.
The Veterans History Project collects veterans’ personal stories of serving in the military. The collection includes personal narratives that have been recorded, correspondence, and visual materials. It seeks to preserve and make these accounts accessible so that future generations can hear directly from veterans to better understand their experiences.
“I was honored to spend some time this morning with so many American heroes,” said Shea-Porter. “Their stories are a part of our nation’s history, and now they will be preserved forever in the Library of Congress. Through the testimony of these veterans, Americans can learn and better appreciate the sacrifice of our veterans and what it means for our nation to be at war and peace. Serving our veterans and the people of the First District has been the privilege of a lifetime. I am forever grateful for the sacrifice of our veterans, and I know every person who hears these stories will feel the same.”
Former Executive Councilor Dudley Dudley interviews the veterans for Shea-Porter’s office and submits their stories to the Library of Congress. Dudley Dudley has collected hundreds of stories. The library has over 500 stories submitted by veterans from across the state.
