Shea-Porter Presents Service Medals to Korean War Veteran Donald Medbery

October 9, 2018
Press Release

DOVER, NH— During a private ceremony this morning in her Dover office, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) presented Korean War Veteran Donald Medbery with four service medals he earned while serving in the US Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1953-1960. Mr. Medbery earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations ‘Korean’ Service Medal. At the ceremony, Shea-Porter thanked Mr. Medbery for his service.

"Mr. Medbery is an American patriot, and we are all inspired by his service,” said Shea-Porter. “Like all of the other veterans we have had the pleasure of serving in our office, he is modest about his service but happy to tell the funny stories. It was a great honor to present him with his medals."

Like many veterans from the Korean War era, Mr. Medbery did not receive the medals he was awarded while he was serving, and his records were lost in the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) fire in 1973. At Shea-Porter’s request, and with supporting documents provided by Mr. Medbery, the NPRC authorized the shipment of Mr. Medbery’s medals.
