Shea-Porter Seeks Congressional Action on Hampton Harbor Dredging Project
WASHINGTON, DC— Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today announced that she has offered an amendment to H.R. 8, the Water Resources Development Act of 2018 to direct the Army Corps of Engineers to dredge Hampton Harbor.
“Commercial fisherman and other small businesses who depend on access to Hampton Harbor are struggling to reach the open ocean because shoaling has left the access channel too shallow to use when the tides are low,” said Shea-Porter. “My amendment would direct the Army Corps of Engineers to promptly dredge the Harbor, which needs to happen as soon as possible. These conditions cannot continue- businesses are suffering because of the delay in dredging the Harbor.”
The House Rules Committee will meet Tuesday night to decide which amendments will be made in order and considered on the House floor later this week.
In March, Shea-Porter sent a letter with the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works R.D. James, requesting that emergency dredging for Hampton Harbor be included in the OMB and Army Corps of Engineers’ (Corps) fiscal year 2018 work plan. The two agencies develop an annual work plan to address high-need projects following the implementation of government funding legislation.
