Shea-Porter Votes for Harvey Relief Bill
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today voted for a bipartisan Hurricane Harvey disaster relief aid package.
“Millions of our fellow Americans are struggling in Harvey’s aftermath, and people across the nation are stepping up to help out. It’s our job in Congress to do the same,” said Shea-Porter. “Providing disaster relief is one of the federal government’s core responsibilities. With another devastating hurricane on the horizon, I will keep working to make sure our nation is there for its citizens during their times of greatest need.”
Shea-Porter’s advocacy for disaster relief is informed by her work as a Red Cross volunteer in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. The federal government’s insufficient response to that disaster inspired her to run for Congress. After Hurricane Sandy, Shea-Porter voted for a relief package that became law on January 29, 2013.
