Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) released the following statement after voting for a bill providing emergency disaster funding for Harvey relief and continuing federal funding (which had been set to expire on September 30th) as well as suspending the debt limit through December 8th. The bill passed the House by a vote of 316-90, and now heads to the President’s desk:

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today introduced H.R.3683, the Student and Families Tax Reduction Act, a bill to make the above-the-line tax deduction for higher education tuition and fees permanent. The deduction of up to $4,000, which is claimed by almost 8,000 Granite Staters per year, expired last December.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today submitted an amendment that would save the Affordable Care Act’s Navigator enrollment assistance grant program from elimination in this week’s House omnibus appropriations bill.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, and Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) sent a letter to the United States Air Force this week, requesting a community update on efforts to treat water supplies contaminated with perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) at Pease International Tradeport, the former Pease Air Force Base. The letter also asks for specific responses to concerns raised by Members of the New Hampshire State Legislature. Thousands of New Hampshire families were exposed to the contaminated water supply at Haven well.
