WASHINGTON, DC— Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, today announced that her provision directing the Department of Defense to report to the Armed Services Committee on its progress in replacing the PFC-based firefighting foam that has contaminated water supplies nation-wide, including around the Pease Air National Guard Base, has been included in the FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act.

Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02), sent a letter to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works R.D. James, requesting that emergency dredging for Hampton Harbor be included in the OMB and Army Corps of Engineers’ (Corps) fiscal year 2018 work plan. Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today announced that her efforts to secure $7 million for the first ever health impact study of PFC water contamination have been successful. Language was included in the government spending bill to fund the new study. Last year, the House unanimously passed Shea-Porter’s amendment to fund the study in the FY2018 Department of Defense Appropriations bill. Shea-Porter authorized the study by including it in the FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act.
