After reports that the Trump Administration will end Consumer Financial Protection Bureau examinations of lenders to check for violations of the Military Lending Act (MLA), Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter joined House Armed Services Committee Democrats in writing to CFPB Director Mulveney urging him to stop this change in practice and instead continue enforcing the MLA. The MLA was passed in 2006 with bipartisan support to address predatory lending practices that target servicemembers.

The emoluments clause prohibits the President from accepting foreign payments without seeking and receiving Congressional authorization.

The Amendment would reverse the catastrophic effects of 2010’s Citizens United Supreme Court decision, which has allowed dark money to flood our elections and drown out Americans’ voices in our democracy.
